Sarah Palin falsely accused Barack Obama of saying, in a secret tape kept hidden by the Main Stream Media, that he wants to bankrupt the coal industry.
“He said that, sure, if the industry wants to build coal-fired power plants, then they can go ahead and try, he says, but they can do it only in a way that will bankrupt the coal industry, and he’s comfortable letting that happen,” Palin said. “And you got to listen to the tape.”
See Palin Unleashes New Attack Against Obama On Coal by CBS News’ Scott Conroy.
That was the first lie. The second is the suggestion that the tape has been concealed as a result of a conspiracy between the Obama campaign and the main stream media.
“Why is the audiotape just now surfacing?” Palin asked, leading someone in the crowd to shout, “Liberal media!”
“This interview was given to San Francisco folks many, many months ago,” Palin said. “You should have known about this, so that you would have better decision-making information as you go into the voting booth.”
If you read today’s SF Chronicle story, Lies, Half Truths and Contradictions: Chronicle ”Hidden” Audio on Obama, you will see that the tape has not only been available on line for months, but Palin and the RNC knew that it was, but still chose to issue their misleading press about the hidden tape.
The same Chronicle article provides a link to the supposedly secret tape. If you look at around minute 27:00, Senator Obama talks about developing clean coal technology and how industry economics will dictate the conversion of plants to the newer technology, once clean coal technology is available.
Palin and McCain have made a big mistake in lying to the American workers.

Hilarious Palin video. I think you’ll enjoy.
Falsely accused? He said pretty clearly – if you want to create a coal plant, you can, you will just go bankrupt.
Sounds pretty clear to me.
I think Obama was pretty clear. He says we can use clean coal. Where do you hear him say that he will ban coal only after it’s available? I think he says the opposite – he says, if clean coal is not available, he would go for whatever other clean energy is possible.
As for ‘hiding’ the tape. Of course the tape was available, for whoever wanted to listen to all 45 minutes to hear what Obama had to say. HOWEVER – the coal issue was not mentioned in the Chronicle’s summary of the meeting. So whoever just read through it, wouldn’t have known about it.
mh497,
It sound s like that, if you don’t listen to the next few minutes of the tape
Sarah Palin HATER,
That was cute. I notice that the prank call may get some play on major media.
Considering Obama’s position is no different than McCain’s who made the same type of statement in 2005 in the senate, the McCain camp knew they were lying before Palin ever spoke.
This is the usual McCain camp and GOP strategy. Just say any piece of crap and hope somebody (Fox Fake News) believes you long enough to get off the subject of the economy.
